This data composes of the lack of people of color nominations and winners in the top four categories – best song, best album, best new artist, and best record. This is important due to the recent social media points about cultural appropriation of minority cultures by white artist in pop and hip-hop records. The fear for hip-hop and rap is what happened to past genres that have black roots like, country, rock, and soul music –, which are all now predominantly white. Specifically in Hip Hop, the origins of hip-hop resides in New York City, where mainly black males describe the truths of poverty, gang vi olence, racial profiling, and other personal experience. Obviously, music can change, which it did, where is focuses more on personal expenses, however authenticity and ability to rap is valued. This opens windows for those from other background, which Iggy Azalea comes in. Australian female rapper, Iggy Azalea, is a popular hip hop artist for her song â€Å"Work† and he #1 billboard chart song â€Å"Fancy.† The issue with Azalea’s music is the lack of authenticity. She takes certain aspects of black culture and profits over these assets, when other female rappers of color are constantly berated for the same features. Black female artist receive criticism for deal with their body, sexuality, tone of voice, and beauty. For example, Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim were call out for their sexual album covers and performances. Although Iggy receives criticisms, it is not as harsh as her female counterparts. Azealia Banks, as a black female rapper, believe that the bias towards Azalea, especially during award shows, like the Grammys shows is bad for the community.
